Keep up with Castle Hills Happenings!
Marking Period 3 Expectations
As the school year progresses the expectation for your child’s learning increases. We are continually learning new skills and building on what we have already learned. We are working not only at mastering the information presented in Kindergarten but learning to apply it.
Listed below are some areas of focus for the third marking period:
What a field trip we had! On Friday, November 6 the Kindergarten team took a trip to Milburn Orchard. At the orchard, the students learned many things about the apple tree and how apples get from the tree to the store. Students and our many chaperones enjoyed a wonderful windy hayride along with a chance to see many farm animals. The students really enjoyed the picnic lunch and a new and exciting playground!
The Second Marking Period ends on Friday November 13. Remember that we are having half days of school from Tuesday November 17 through Friday November 20 due to Parent/Teacher conferences. All of the Kindergarten teachers look forward to meeting all of our parents.
Please do not forget that the weather is getting much colder. We will still be having outside recess, so please make sure your child is dressed appropriately
November 6th – Red/White/Blue for Veteran’s Day
Or Philadelphia Phillies (you choose)
November 13th – Football spirit day
November 20th – Castle Hills Spirit Day
November 24th – S.M.A.R.T. Kids Day – wear your thinking cap! (Hat Day)
In September, we were visited by two New Castle County Mounted Police Officers, Officer Bill and Officer Eric and their horses, Elvis and Commander. The children learned not to be fearful of a police officer, how to approach a horse and lots of new vocabulary words. They identified the badge, the uniform of the officers, the saddle and the reins of the horse.
Upcoming events for kindergarten include a visit by the Delaware Solid Waste Authority on October 29th and a field trip to Milburn Apple Orchard on November 6th. Check your child’s book bag for further information about these events.
Marking Period 2 Expectations

Listed below are some areas of focus for the second marking period:
In August and September Kindergartners are busy adjusting to all the new routines at school. We are practicing colors and shapes as well as how to write and recognize our names. Learning how to get though the lunch line independently, what to do and where to go at dismissal (car rider, bus, or walker), and how to walk in a line are all things that Kindergarten is learning about too.
Please send in change of clothes for your child. Bathroom accidents, lunch spills (like milk or syrup) or falling in mud at recess are only some of the reasons having a spare set of clothes can be helpful, and the nurse does not always have clothes in every size available.
Hope to see you at K-READS night September 2, 2009!
